In this morning's administrators meeting, we discussed a collegiate policy regarding compensation that has been formalized.
In the College of Science and Engineering:
"Notwithstanding any other language, all payments of salary (e.g. regular, summer, and all augmentations) drawn from any University resources, including "discretionary" resources, must be approved by one's supervisor or designee or a higher approving authority."
This policy is applicable particularly in cases where funds are awarded that may be used to supplement one's salary. Regardless of the wording of such a commitment, the actual payment of those funds as salary always is subject to approval as described above.
